Dont’a Leaves The High Tower

Around 1:45 pm today the representatives of Dont’a Hightower confirmed that the star

linebacker is re-signing with the New England Patriots. Since being drafted by the

Patriots in 2012, Hightower has been a key defensive cog on and quickly became the

signal caller on a continuously improved defense. Hightower’s play in the postseason

will live in Patriots lore, making a key red zone tackle on Marshawn Lynch in Super

Bowl 49 and causing a MASSIVE forced fumble on Matt Ryan that sparked the epic

comeback in Super Bowl 52 against the Falcons.

It appeared all along that the Patriots were the front runner for the services of the

linebacker, after he explored free agency for the first time once the Patriots elected not

to place the Franchise tag on him. Other teams, the Jets and Steelers in particular,

made compelling cases but all along the feeling amongst league personnel and fans

was that the opportunity to continue playing for Lombardi Trophies was too much to

pass up.

The numbers for the contract are out, and it appears to be a rather team-friendly deal

for the Patriots. After seeing the contract signed by former teammate Jamie Collins

with the Browns, many assumed that the better all-around Hightower would command

something similar. Looking at the numbers though, it is quite reasonable: 4 years $43

million, with $19 million guaranteed.

Now the most important members of the team on Offense/Defense are on team-
friendly deals, see Thomas Edward Brady, and all is right in the world. Pretty

unbelievable offseason for the Pats, my grade:11/10

The time to get 6 in the mix, *WORKING TITLE*, is full steam ahead. Lets go!
